Poverty has been a discreet issue in the newspapers and digital media this past week, no front pages about the fact that 72% of the population in the Mexican state of Chihuahua lives in poverty was put in controversy, or the fact that almost 2% doesn’t have enough to put a meal on their table.

This information came from the annual evaluation of the CONEVAL (National Council for Evaluation of Social Development Policy), which is under the Ministry of Social Development (SEDESOL), document released last monday.

In the published information, the state of Chihuahua had other setbacks: in education, affecting 635 thousand people, which doesn’t have the necessary academic formation to access formal employment; quality of life isn’t fully accessible to 291 thousand people, and basic services to human needs, such as water or electricity, aren’t satisfied necessities to 292 thousand people

The reaction of the state government was to deny the numbers from CONEVAL. Jose Luis Garcia, secretary of Chihuahua Ministry of Social Development, said the numbers were wrong, for Chihuahua is among the first’s states that decreased poverty levels in Mexico.

Shocking Chihuahua

The scape of “El Chapo” isn’t the only one giving news, here in Chihuahua there is another men on the run from authorities, his name is Paris Lau Campbell, suspected to kill three students from the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ).

The suspected murderer is the ex-Rector of the UACJ, Rubén Lau Rojo, who was a student in the same University.

The shock comes when investigations point to a settle for illegal drugs money, being the motive this young man fired the three other students, who were Aarón Baray Nava, Damián Alemán Valadez and Alexis Erasto, each on their early twenties.

According to early reports, the dispute between the group of suspected youngsters, became violent because the three men were short in money from the sale of crystal rock, which lead Paris Lau to shoot the others.

Government officials said the shots came from a gun caliber .225, but witnesses said it was an AK 47, this in a neighborhood called Fuentes del Valle, in Juárez México.

On the scene of the shooting, Aarón Baray Navam and Damián Alemán Valadez, died, while Alexis Erasto was taken to the hospital, and later died from his injuries, not being able to point the shooter.

In other news, families of Bocoyna Municipality here in Chihuahua, have accused their municipality government of leaving their families abandoned in poverty. Bocoyna is known as a tourist site, and local families demand just better conditions of life, but local authorities continues to ignore them, even with them sleeping outside the doors of City Hall, for 19 days, and counting.

The families are represented by the social group known as Movimiento Antorchista Nacional, based in the 31 states of Mexico, and the Distrito Federal.
