Mexico City.- Gabriel Garcia Marquez was already identified since the 60’s due to his leftist ideas and activism on behalf of the socialist regime established by Fidel Castro in Cuba.

Garcia Marquez was subject to careful monitoring since the 70’s, when he had a Mexican immigrant visa, first by the government of Luis Echeverria (1970-1976) and later by Jose Lopez Portillo (1976-1982).

When François Mitterrand was preparing to assume the presidency of France in May 1981, Gabo had time planning to consolidate his relations with the socialist president team. The information sheets and files generated by the former Federal Security Direction (DFS) confirmed it.

The activities of Gabo as an intermediary between the Latin American leftist militants and the Mitterrand team are one of broader episodes recorded by the DFS.
